A luxury resort on Vancouver Island has once again been named one of the best hotels in the country, this time by travel website Fodor’s Travel.
Fodor’s Travel, which began printing travel guides nearly 90 years ago, named the Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge north of Tofino as one of the 17 best hotels in Canada and the U.S. for 2024.
The lodge, which is only accessible by boat or seaplane, is described as “a true escape from the chaos of the outside world” by Fodor’s.
It’s located in an UNESCO-designated biosphere reserve and offers luxury meals and spa treatments, alongside outdoor excursions like kayaking, horseback riding, hiking and whale-watching tours.
“Aside from guest education on the area’s rich Indigenous culture and heritage, as well as active support for sustainability initiatives, the lodge’s meals feature hyperlocal ingredients sourced from the Island and throughout British Columbia,” reads Fodor’s review of the hotel.
Unlike other hotels, the lodge offers 25 luxury “glamping” tents instead of rooms, with prices starting at $3,000 per night. The lodge is open for the summer season from May through September annually.
Only one other hotel in Canada made Fodor’s list of the 17 best hotels in Canada and the U.S. list – the Rosewood Hotel Georgia in Vancouver.
Besides landing on Fodor’s list last month, the Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge was also named one of the top hotels in the country on Michelin’s inaugural hotel guide in September, as well as one of the “coolest” places to travel this year by National Geographic in January.
