Camping allows for low CO2 emissions, as it does not require long-distance travels because many trips can be done locally. In comparison to other means of accommodation, it is also a relatively inexpensive way of traveling and very popular among backpackers.
In the United States, camping is a well-established way of recreational tourism. Different providers allow for various ways of camping, be it in national parks, on professional campgrounds, or at small camping spots. Campsites are well-established and allow for easy booking, both online and offline. This is similar to Europe, where popular camping countries are France, the Netherlands, and Germany. However, also China discovers camping more and more as a popular recreational activity. The number of campsites has increased steeply in the past years, which shows a growing demand for camping in the Asian region.
